-I saw a strange bird today out on the balcony. Of good size, its feathers were black and blue with a white bib. The crest on its head was a deep red. The feathers on its tail were of good length. This is a new animal to me. I have never seen a bird such as this before. It is as at least twice as big as the little Stole Jays that I am accustomed to seeing. It flew away when I went out to put some seed down on the wide railing.
Palkeera told me from my description that it is a Silver Throated Magpie-Jay, and that they’re very rare. To see one means that good luck is sure to be on its way.
I hope it means that I’ll be done with this sampler soon. My fingers hurt because Enakhra’s kitten ate my thimble and I wasn’t going to find it in the cat-box. The next sampler won’t be this fancy.
The Silver Throated Magpie-Jay. Yes, it does of course of the white bib, but many jays have white bibs. I think that perhaps a name giving tribute to its red crest would be much more appropriate. We could call it the Bodkin Magpie-Jay.
The supplies for our trip later this month are starting to arrive. My job has been to sort them out and package them accordingly. All of it is going to the same town, but not all the supplies are for the temple as we are also taking to them a few things that were ordered for their local government.
I am very excited for this trip. I’ll be meeting people who live very different lives, away from the Holy City. I’ve been told that it is a community that does much farming, particularly wheat and dairy cows. I’ve never been to a farm before, the closest thing I know is the Temple gardens, which are cared for by the students.
With good luck on its way, this is starting to look like a very fulfilling month.
