Moevyng 14th

-Today was Chunchi’s birthday. I made her a cupcake, which is easier than making enough cake to feed the whole of the vast legion that call the student body. Azzanadra said that student birthdays happen too often anyways to be handing out confections at each turn. He also feels humans are prone to putting on weight, so no cake for the rest of us.

It was strawberry, her favorite, but I stuffed the center with hot chili paste. When her eyes were watering and her nose sniffling and I was done laughing, I gave her my gift; an expensive clockwork mouse. If you wind the key, the gears make the mouse move around in an erratic manner while producing curious clicks and squeaks.

Chunchi also received a finely woven blanket and letter from her mother. Most dazzling of all though was the gift from her older cousin, a wizard. It came in a silk pouch. When she opened it, all of us students were in awe. A small, valuable runestone, cradled in a wire frame hanging from a necklace. I think most of the other students have never even seen a real runestone, or at least not this close. I don’t know how her cousin was able to send her one as a present; They are rare and the flow of them is controlled in a meticulous manner.

Palkeera once left a rune out on her desk while she was studying, which I had found and eaten. In my defense, I was much younger at that time and it DID look an awful lot like the reward candies Palkeera keeps in a bowl on the desk. I passed fire, which burned a hole in the back of my robes. I miss being young enough to get away with those kinds of shenanigans.
